Virtual Study Space

New Library Service!

Have you missed us? We sure have missed you!

It’s been 8 months since we last saw you all studying in one of the KU Libraries.  Have you missed being at the Library, sharing the same table with others or having your peers sitting at the next cubicle?  Our doors might remain closed, but this doesn’t mean we can’t offer you a bit of a “studying at the Library” feeling through technology.

Our new service creates an open VIRTUAL STUDY SPACE for all, every day between Monday to Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm.  Log in to Zoom and spend 2 hours studying, virtually surrounded by other KU members.

An expert Librarian will also be present to offer research support, using the Zoom Breakout rooms.  You can ask your questions regarding Library resources, assignments, tools, services and more.

To join us, click on the link: https://kocun.zoom.us/j/99628669993

Zoom ID (KU Authentication Required): 996 2866 9993
Passcode: 478562

Details and rules

  • When: Monday to Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • How: Join using the Zoom link
  • Who: Open to all KU students and Researchers
  • How it works: The Library virtual study space creates a communal study area, having a Library staff member to support you. Zoom offers the ability to use separate rooms in the same session.  In case you need assistance from the Librarian, you will use a breakout room with the Librarian.  Once you have received answers to all your questions, the Librarian will admit you back to the main session and you can continue studying.

What you can do:

  • Study at your own pace, from the comfort of your home. No rush to complete specific tasks within these 2 hours
  • Keep your camera open – Create a more interactive experience
  • Ask your questions to the Librarian in charge of the session, using the CHAT box. If the matter requires more time than a single phrase answer, the Librarian will transfer you to a Zoom Breakout room where you can talk in detail about your topic.
  • Join as many times as you wish. There is no limitation in the times you will join or the duration of your staying at the session

What you cannot do:

  • Keep your microphones open – talk with each other
  • Use the CHAT box to exchange messages among you and generate a dialogue
  • Join the session for reasons other than studying and asking for support from the Librarian
