About the Theme:

Koç University Libraries (Suna Kıraç Library and branch libraries AKMED, ANAMED and VEKAM) continued their project with the theme of Treasury Gallery 4: Civil Architecture, which was initiated to increase the visibility of their collections, to address informative and interesting topics and to present them online to researchers.

Within the scope of this project, with a team of 5 people, it is aimed to bring together the resources in our collection, especially the civil architecture of Ankara and Istanbul, with researchers. For this reason, social media posts, digital exhibitions, blog post and subject guide are prepared and a panel were organized about Ankara and Istanbul civil architecture.

Digital Exhibitions

Civil Architectural Memory Ankara 1930-1980 Structure Inventory Exhibition (Exhibition language is Turkish)

Civil Architectural Cultural Heritage Between 1930-1980 in Ankara: Research Documentation and Development of Preservation Criteria Project to draw attention to the civil architectural structures specific to housing, to research and document these structures; On the other hand, it was carried out in order to develop criteria for the protection of these structures by revealing their cultural heritage characteristics. The project was carried out within Başkent University and supported by TÜBITAK and Koç University VEKAM.

The inventory created within the scope of the project consists of the records and materials compiled from the findings obtained during the documentation process of the civil architectural structures that were built between 1930-1980 in Ankara’s Çankaya, Altındağ, Mamak, Keçiören, Yenimahalle districts and that meet the criteria determined within the framework of the project. Inventory records are made available as a digital collection by Koç University VEKAM.

An Example of Ottoman Civil Architecture: The Fountain of Ahmed III – Exhibition

An Example of Ottoman Civil Architecture: The fountain of Ahmed III, our digital exhibition named the fountain of Ahmed III, represents one of the most important examples of Ottoman civil architecture. The fountain of Ahmed III was built on the site of an old Byzantine fountain called Perayton. The Fountain was built during the Tulip Era and still remains one of our most important examples of civil architecture.
