Koç University Libraries (AKMED, ANAMED, SKL and VEKAM), have more than 210,000 digital documents and prepared the “Treasure Gallery” project to increase the usability of their collections by delivering them to researchers and interested parties. The Treasury Gallery aims to present the library’s digital collections to users with different themes through various events such as conferences, exhibitions, and blog posts throughout the year. The second theme “Yörüks” is series of Treasure Gallery, was created based on the donation collections of the dear Josephine Powell and Ulla Johansen. Josephine Powell Dia Collection is a digital collection containing more than 30,000 documents containing photographs of Yörüks life and weaving. Ulla Johansen, who lived with the Yörük family for a while and observed and documented their life, donated her collection of photographs and handwritings to our library. Inspired by these two collections, a series of conferences were held throughout September. The conferences were held every week with the presentations of professional speakers who discussed the Yörük’s life from a different perspective. In addition, resources related to nomadism and weaving have been compiled to guide for the library users. Our activities titled “Nomads of Anatolia: Yörüks” came to an end with blog posts and a digital exhibition.
By these events, we respectfully commemorate the esteemed Josephine Powell and Ulla Johansen.
The events were held in Turkish.
