Virtual Reference Services (VRS)
Get support from Librarians via Virtual Reference Service! Suna Kıraç Library’s Virtual Reference Service (VRS) is just another way that the Library is providing online support for students and faculty members during the semester! This service is providing drop-in virtual reference hours. Join us for virtual reference sessions via Zoom to learn more about research, citation, locating online materials, using Library resources, etc. Screen share option will help you to easily follow the steps that the librarian goes through. |

Zoom Zone for Virtual Classes This fall, Koç University students can use a brand-new Zoom Zone! This is a designated area located in the library building where students can log in to virtual classes and lectures. Suna Kıraç Library has designated the study hall inside the library, located on the right side of the Ground Floor as Zoom Zone area for students. You are encouraged to bring your own computers/devices, headsets and microphones to attend virtual classes in this area. The Zoom Zone is available on a first-come, first-served basis and students must wear mask and use headphones at all times. It is important not to disrupt other students who may be attending a class. Come and study at the Library’s brand-new Zoom Zone! |

Juliopolis Collection The Juliopolis collection was created in 2020 as an output of the Bioarchaeological Study of the Human Skeletal Remains of the Ancient City of Juliopolis Project. The stakeholders of this project were VEKAM as well as the Hacettepe University and Anatolian Civilizations Museum. In total of 764 graves were excavated at the excavations directed by the Presidency of the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. The excavations were carried out for 12 seasons between 2009-2020 in the Ancient City of Juliopolis, located in the Çayırhan Town of Ankara. The collection includes images of these tombs, artefacts and information about the remains of the people found in the tombs. The collection is now open for access at the Digital Collections webpage. We would also like to inform you that the collection will continue to grow in the upcoming years with the addition of different types of archival data sets! |

Library Infographics: Research Data Services
Research data management (RDM) refers to the organisation, storage and preservation of data created during a research project and Suna Kıraç Library continues to develop its services in this field! Suna Kıraç Library has launched some new services related to RDM for the KU community. In this context, our Reference Librarians are supporting KU researchers to prepare their data management plans for research projects; offering an open access research data repository for trusted, long-term data storage; organizing trainings/events and provide counselling about RDM processes working together with Research Data Management Working Group at the university. |

Treasure Gallery Series 3 – Daily Life in Byzantine Istanbul: Artisanship The Daily Life in Byzantine Istanbul theme is continuing in November with a full program specialized on artisanship in Byzantium. This November you will learn about ceramic, silk, mosaics, and metals productions and the effect of the artisans on the Byzantine society, especially in Istanbul. On Wednesday November 17, a talk entitled “Daily Life in Byzantium: Artisanship” will take place with three distinguished speakers, Gülbahar Baran Çelik (İstanbul Archaeology Museum), Meryem Acar Eser (Sivas Cumhuriyet University) and Dilek Maktal Canko (Ege University). Also, two podcasts will be made available this month! The podcasts are with Gang Wu on “Byzantium Silk Industry”, Elvin Akbulut Dağlıer on “Byzantium Mosaics”. SKL Book Club
Dear booklovers of KU Community, this November we are reading “İçimizdeki Şeytan” [The Devil Inside Us] by Sabahattin Ali. Unfortunately, there is no English translation of this novel yet. Therefore, this virtual talk will be held in Turkish. This novel is about love, inner conversations and reckoning of important characters named Macide and Ömer. The author, Sabahattin Ali shows us the pressure of the social agenda on personalities and the 'trapped' of the weak. SKL Podcast In this month’s Suna Kıraç Library “İstanbul'u Dinliyorum” Podcast, we hosted Pınar Üre for a discussion entitled "İmparatorluk Çağında Rus Tarihçilerin Gözünden İstanbul". In this episode, we talked about various subjects such as the Russian Archaeological Institute in Constantinople -which was operating between 1895 and 1914-, the studies of Russian Byzantine historians in Istanbul, how the history of Istanbul was studied in Turkic studies. ANAMED Library Talk ANAMED Library Talks, jointly organized with the ANAMED Library and the History Foundation is continuing with Vildan Yarlıgaş (Istanbul Central and Regional Restoration and Conservation Laboratory Directorate) on November 2, 2021. This month’s talk is entitled, Saklı Kalmış Bir Hazine: Hadi Tamer - Hayatı, Çalışmaları, Eserleri [A Hidden Treasure: Hadi Tamer- His Life, Studies, Works]. The Hadi Tamer Documents Collection, which is now available on the Koç University Digital Collections, will be discussed within the scope of this talk. By introducing the documents in this collection, Hadi Tamer's life, work, and scientific conservation approach will be discussed. His never-ending passion research and self-development that set an example for everyone working in the field of conservation will also be introduced. New features of Scopus: Preprints are on Scopus Author Profiles Early this year Preprint was added to the Scopus Author Profiles as a content type. At the initial stage, preprints from the areas of Physical Sciences and Biomedical Sciences were added. Now Social Sciences (SSRN) preprints are being added to Scopus Author Profiles! The target is to add 250,000 SSRN Preprints dating back to 2017. With this latest addition the number of preprints on Scopus Author Profiles will reach 1.4 million! |

Access Databases from Home Access all library resources from home! Upload the Pulse Secure client to access the KU VPN. Log-in to the Pulse Secure client before opening any e-books, e-journals and databases from the Suna Kıraç Library’s website. In this way you may enjoy doing research as if you were in the library! |

Room Reservations Suna Kıraç Library Group Study Rooms can now be used as Individual Study Rooms. Within the scope of Fall 2021 Library Rules, you may use these rooms to attend online classes. There are 13 rooms available as Individual Study Rooms and they can be reserved for maximum of 2 hours per day. There is an online reservation system for room bookings. To check-out the room key, the person who placed the booking must present their University ID card at the Reserve Desk.
