After a well-deserved break and a very exciting graduation ceremony, we are back again to our lovely campus for the summer school! As Suna Kıraç Library, we started summer with a quite busy and productive schedule. In June, our focus was mainly on IFLA Division D Mid-term Meeting organized in ANAMED between 5 and 7 June. We also directed our efforts to provide our students with a comfortable studying environment during the finals’ week.
For Suna Kıraç Library, summer means preparing for the fall term! This month, we start working on updating our library instructions and guides with the help of latest tools, including AI based ones. We brainstorm for new event ideas and research for new ways to assist our students and faculty. When in need of a cool and calm place in hot summer days, do not forget to visit the library!
We wish everyone a productive but also relaxing summer.

Those who follow us know that, as Koç University Suna Kıraç Library and unit libraries, we have a Treasure Series project that we have been carrying out for about three years. Within this project's scope, we determine a theme every few months and organize various events within the scope of this theme to bring specific resources and collections to enthusiasts.
We have left ten themes behind so far. Seljuks was the 11th theme we carried out within this project's scope. Systems Support Librarian Serhat Uran wrote about how he felt working for Seljuks theme for SKLBlog.
The blog post has been written in Turkish.

Clarivate Releases 2024 Journal Citation Reports
|
By June 20, Clarivate released the 2024 update to the Journal Citation Reports™ (JCR™). The reports provide an essential and comprehensive resource of high-quality journals, ranked by field, to enable academic institutions, researchers, and publishers to gauge the significance of journals in the global research landscape. Changes to journal rankings include the addition of the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)
This year, for the first time, the JCR includes unified rankings across subject categories. There will no longer be separate JIF rankings for the nine subject categories that are indexed in multiple editions. Now, those journals will receive a single ranking in their subject category, and the separate rankings will be eliminated. For example, a psychiatry journal listed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)™ and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)™ will now be ranked in one unified Psychiatry ranking rather than two.
Key highlights for the 2024 release:
-
The JCR has been enhanced to provide an easier and more complete user experience. It includes the integration of journals from the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) in the new unified category rankings.
-
Coverage of more than 21,800 journals – including ~5,800 journals which publish all their content via open access.
-
Scholarly journals from 112 countries, across 254 categories are recognized and receive a JIF. This includes 14,090 science journals, 7,321 social science journals and 3,304 arts & humanities journals.
-
544 journals receive a Journal Impact Factor for the first time.
For more detailed information on this year’s changes, please visit Clarivate’s web page.

Internet Archive – Takedown of 500,000 Books
|
After last year’s court decision clarifying that Internet Archive’s controled digital lending operations are an infringement of copyright, Internet Archive is forced to remove about 500,00 titles from its collection. Now, the digital library is appealing to reverse the court’s decision, while IA’s fans signed an open letter addressing the publishers and asking them to reconsider the takedowns.
