3rd Annual Career Fair Celebrated During the 60th National Library Week
|
As the Suna Kıraç Library, we hosted our 3rd Career Fair, which has become a tradition during the 60th Library Week. This year's event, expertly organized by İrem Ünal, Onur Yılmaz, Serhat Uran, and Mert Çoban, marked another successful edition. Of course, the understanding and warmth shown by the experts we wanted to host as guests at our event had a significant impact.
The Career Fair 2024 started on Thursday, March 28th, with the speech of our director, Tuba Akbaytürk Çanak. Ms. Akbaytürk Çanak's speech and her valuable advice to young librarians is available for access here. After the opening speech, experts in information and document management shared experiences, followed by insights from different types of libraries. The diverse third session included specialists from academia, technology, and management. The final session featured two graduates who pursued careers outside the field. Overall, speakers offered valuable career perspectives to students.
We would like to thank all our speakers, valuable students, and colleagues who attended the event once again. We hope that our sharing will increase in the following years, and we will have the chance to meet again. Happy 60th Library Week!

Millions of Scholarly Articles are not being Archived: Report
|
A recent study in the Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication examined over seven million documents with digital object identifiers (DOIs). Surprisingly, more than two million articles, about 28 percent, were missing from archives despite having DOIs. Lead researcher Martin Paul Eve emphasized the urgent need for intervention to prevent the loss of scholarly material. The study recommends updating contractual agreements with DOI registration agencies and increasing education on digital preservation.
