Mediated Book Lending Service

As the Summer semester is in progress, don’t forget to benefit from the Mediated Book Lending service. Search the Library’s online catalog for the material you need, fill in the online form and come pick it up. Make sure to add all necessary information and follow the instructions.

Scan and Deliver

Scan & Deliver

The Scan & Delivery service, which is open to KU students and faculty members, includes the e-mailing of the pages scanned from the printed library resources, within a framework determined by the Copyright Law. The collections in our branch libraries are also included. The timing details to be taken into account in requests from branch libraries are given below:

  • For material from AKMED and VEKAM Libraries, send your requests no later than 11:00 am of every Tuesday.
  • For material from the Health Sciences library, send your request no later than 12.00pm of every Tuesday.
  • For material from ANAMED library, send your request no later than 12:00pm of every Thursday.

Fill in the online request form and remember that This service is provided for educational purposes only. It is also prohibited to use the resource for non-educational activities.


LexisLibrary on Trial until End of the July

Lexis Library is a legal database that provides access to UK legislation and law reports, legal journals and commentary sources, and online versions of major research encyclopedias including Halsbury's Laws of England, Atkins Court Forms, and Encyclopedia of Forms & Precedents. In addition to the main Search tab, the Practice Areas tab provides access to materials relating to specific areas of legal practice, and the Sources tab enables you to browse and search for individual sources, including international legal materials. The database is updated daily and will be on trial access until the end of July 2021. For questions about e-resources, you can always contact us using the Library track-it.

We are happy to announce a new addition to SKL Library Tips Video Series. In this new video, you may learn more about our A to Z Databases Page. The Library databases page has some icons and filters that help you to easily access the needed databases. This video will help you to understand the basic structure of the page as well as the explanation of some icons.

EAHIL Conference

EAHIL Conference: HSL Poster

The European Association of Health Information and Libraries (EAHIL) is an active association uniting librarians and information professionals working in medical and health science libraries across Europe. The association has approximately 1900 members from 64 countries. EAHIL organizes conferences that bring together health science librarians every year. It aims to contribute to the professional development of information professionals with various themes determined at these conferences. This year's EAHIL Conference will be held on 5-8 July, hosted by Marmara University. Due to the pandemic, the event will be online.

Koç University Health Sciences Library will also participate at the conference, with a poster presentation titled “Systematic review service from the Koç University Health Sciences Library”, presenting the systematic review service offered by our Health Sciences Library to researchers. In addition, we will support the meeting with a presentation titled “Health Sciences Library Services in Turkey: Koc University Example” during the Plenary Turkish Medical Librarians session that will take place on July 8.

#KULibTreasureGallery – Library Travelogues

The 1st themed project of the KULibTreasureGallery concludes its activities with one more podcast about the "Ottoman 'Travel Boom' in 19th Century", a blog post about "Accommodations and Hotels in Istanbul in the 19th Century Through the Eyes of Travelers", a digital exhibition with rare material from AKMED Library, a workshop on infographics with the participation of Library & Information Science students that lead to a competition for the best poster and a 2 days conference on the importance of travel books for research purposes, valuable library collections and multi-perspective presentations about the famous traveler Evliya Çelebi. A few more activities will continue at the beginning of July, as we hand over the floor to the 2nd theme on Nomadic life.

July Virtual Book Club

This month’s book is the “Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini. The Kite Runner is the first Afghan novel that was written in English. We will read about this unlike friendship between Amir and Hassan, two Afghan boys of different socioeconomic status. The novel presents themes like friendship, personal guilt and redemption. Join us to discuss about the story and the important messages presented on 14th of July at 4 pm.

At the Suna Kıraç Library “İstanbul'u Dinliyorum” Podcast, this month we host Saro Dadyan, PhD Candidate at Bahcesehir University. The title of this podcast is “Tanzimat İstanbulu'nun Mimarları, Fossatiler”. In this episode, we talk about the Fosatti family, who came to Istanbul in 1837, restored Hagia Sophia, built valuable buildings such as the Bab-ı Seraskeri Hospital, the Dârülfünun, Hazine-i Evrak, and Mekteb-i Sanay in the Tanzimat era İstanbul and affected architecture heritage of 19th century Istanbul with their projects. In June’s archive themed ANAMED Library Podcast, we hosted Ayşen Kılıç Özarslantürk, the Coordinator of the Information and Documentation Center of the ÇEKÜL Foundation. Together we discussed about the archive projects of ÇEKÜL Foundation. Ayşen explained the purpose of the ÇEKÜL Foundation, the formation, development and use of the archive. By listening to this podcast, you will learn the details of ÇEKÜL Foundation Information and Document Centre’s archive projects, which contribute greatly to the protection of the environment and cultural values.

The guests of the Library themed ANAMED Library podcast in June, were Ertuğrul Çimen, MEF University Library Director and Filiz Ekingen Flores Mamondi, Boğaziçi University Library Reference Department Head. We had a pleasant conversation with two valuable names who represent the Turkish Librarianship abroad through their work at the IFLA Association. During the discussion they shared information about their contribution in the teams they participate in, their duties, the professional and personal benefits of voluntary participation in an international organization and more. In this podcast, listeners will also find advice and tips for those who want to be part in international organizations. Enjoy!

The ANAMED Library Podcast 3rd international guest is Dr. Giannis Tsakonas from Greece, Director of the Library & Information Centre of the University of Patras. The discussion focused on digital libraries and institutional repositories, on assessment for quality services and on official bodies and the importance of their activities and role in further strengthening the position of libraries in information and technology. Serving in the Executive Board of HEAL-Link and in LIBER’s Executive Board as Head of the Innovative Scholarly Communication Steering Committee, Giannis talked about the importance of voluntarily participation in international networks and collaborations which support Libraries with coordinated actions or policies. Hüseyin Hilmi Pasha from Yemen to Vienna Through Evrak-ı Metrukesi (1899-1917)

The "Library Talks" organized jointly by the Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED) Library and the History Foundation (Tarih Vakfı) continue with Sinan Kaya on July 6, 2021. The talk will present Hüseyin Hilmi Pasha's political career with the data provided by the Hüseyin Hilmi Pasha Archive, which was opened to access by Koç University Suna Kıraç Library Digital Collections in 2020. The political and social events that Hüseyin Hilmi Pasha experienced during his governorship of Yemen, his activities as Inspector of Macedonia, and his observations during the March 31 Incident, will be presented through his perspective. In addition, information about Hüseyin Hilmi Pasha’s social environment and economic situation will be given through the note/account book he kept while serving at the Vienna Embassy. In the last part of the talk, there will be a discussion on how personal archives can change our perception of history. The talk will be moderated by Senem Acar. VEKAM-Research Methods Seminars Series

VEKAM hold events that target to upgrade the skills and support researchers who are carrying out scientific researches. A recent seminar series consisting of a variety of subjects that are thematically constructed in the scope of scientific research methods started in Fall semester 2020. The last seminar of the series was devoted to “Dealing with Data: Management of Research Data” which was presented by Çiğdem Yıldırım, Research Liaison & Reference Librarian at Suna Kıraç Library, on 17 June. In the presentation, you will find the basic concepts of Research Data Management such as definitions of data, file formats/naming, data storage/backup solutions, preparing data management plans, FAIR data principles and more beside recent works at Koç University.

The Open Access Button is Now OA.Works

The Open Access (OA) Button is a browser extension which allows you to find legal versions of articles which aren't behind a paywall. The OA Button tells you if there are free (and legally available) copies of articles available as you go along - without you having to search them out. The tool, once installed, searches an extensive collection of existing repositories and aggregators in the background of your browser and indicates when it finds an Open Access version of something using a discrete icon on your screen. OA Button is currently changing its name to OA.Works. It builds powerfully simple open access tools for a just and kind information age. OA.Works organization is a non-profit building tools so open access is easy and equitable. The tools are free, open source, and co-designed with advocates for a just world. To advance their mission, OA.Works is crafting tools like ShareYourPaper, that make self-archiving simple for everyone. Tools like InstantILL, that make it possible to deliver access, without subscriptions. Tools like OAButton (formerly, Open Access Button), that offers readers a way to request scholarship directly from authors.
