Book Citation Index - Clarivate Analytics - Web of Science

The Book Citation Index in Web of Science™ Core Collection connects a library’s book collection to powerful new discovery tools, giving researchers the ability to quickly and easily identify and access the most relevant books. As a part of Web of Science Core Collection, Book Citation Index allows users to search seamlessly across books, journals and conference proceedings to find the information most relevant to their work within one platform.

Bringing together scholarly book, journal and conference proceedings literature within Web of Science, it optimizes the powerful features of citation navigation. This provides researchers with access to the citation network between books and the wider world of scholarly and scientific research, allowing them to measure the contribution of books in specific disciplines and identify potential collaborators.

NEJM.org Institutional Remote Access: Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device

Our NEJM.org institution site license subscription now includes an easy remote-access option. With the addition of this benefit, patrons can access NEJM.org beyond the KU network institutional IP range – anytime, anywhere, and from any device (phone, tablet, laptop, desktop).

Patrons must sign into their free NEJM.org account while within the KU institution’s IP range, enabling the KU site license access rights to sync with their personal NEJM.org account automatically for 60 days.

Chicago Citation Style

For different academic disciplines, different citations styles are used by the academic World. The most popular ones and extensively used, are APA, MLA, Turabian and lastly The Chicago Manual of Style. The story of The Chicago Manual of Style goes back the last quarter of 19th century when the University of Chicago Press first opened its doors and hubs the academic World. The 1st edition of the Chicago Manual of Style book was ultimately published in 1906 and therefore, that makes this style the oldest and maybe the most comprehensive one.

According to The Chicago Manual of Style Online, this style has two varieties: (1) notes and bibliography and (2) author-date. The notes and bibliography system is preferred by those working in the humanities such as literature, especially history, and the arts. In this system, sources are cited in numbered footnotes or endnotes. Each note corresponds to a raised (superscript) number in the text. Sources are also usually listed in a separate bibliography. The author-date system is more common in the sciences and social sciences. In this system, sources are briefly cited in the text, usually in parentheses, by author’s last name and year of publication. Each in-text citation matches up with an entry in a reference list, where full bibliographic information is provided.

Bibliopera New Partner

Housing over 600.000 printed materials mainly on social sciences & humanities, BiblioPera is continuing to expand both its collection and its geographical span. ARTER has decided to be included as a part of BiblioPera by a consensus decision in the last meeting. With its new building, ARTER is going to be open by September with its library which mainly holds sources on Contemporary Art and Art History. ARTER will also offer researchers space and funding opportunities as other member institutions do. Follow www.bibliopera.org and BiblioPera’s social media accounts for the latest news and events.

Erasmus – Staff Mobility in Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

ANAMED head Librarian Berkay Küçükbaşlar made a visit to SPINlab, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as within the scope of ERASMUS+ staff exchange program. Being a part of the Department of Spatial Economics, SPINlab (Spatial Information Laboratory) has been developing their studies in the areas of Geo-Information Science and Technology. For their distant-learning MSc. program, UNIGIS, a dense workshop was held in the main campus in June. Berkay participated to this workshop as an external invitee. This visit was very relevant in terms of observing Vrije University’s capacity to study spatial datasets and also their efficiency on teaching GIS tools to the researchers.

LIBER Conference – SKL Staff Attendance

LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche – Association of European Research Libraries), founded in 1971, is one of the leading international organizations in enhancing a wider network for library professionals from around the world, including Koç University Suna Kıraç Library. LIBER contributes to shape the future and vision of research libraries by funding projects, publications and organizing conferences annually.

This year’s 48th LIBER Conference took place at Trinity College in Dublin between 26th-28th of June 2019. The conference defined its goal to identify the most pressing needs for research libraries, and to share information and ideas for addressing those needs. For three days, over 400 librarians found the opportunity to attend over 30 presentations in 12 sessions supported by the pre-program workshops and leadership seminars. The program was divided into three different themes: “Innovative Scholarly Communication”, “Digital Skills & Services” and “Research Infrastructure” which are also the main areas of focus of LIBER’s strategic plan for 2018-2020.

Mustafa Ergül (Archive Specialist) and Serhat Uran (Systems Support Librarian) from Koç University Suna Kıraç Library, were awarded with the grant of LIBER to attend this year’s event. You can read all about it soon, in our Blog page.
