We are delighted to announce that our exhibition “Illuminating the Future: The Reconstruction of Higher Education in the Early Years of the Republic, 1923–1946” curated by the Suna Kıraç Library team is now on campus! On the centenary anniversary of the Republic, the exhibition examines early reforms in higher education and brings together important documents and visual material from different archives, primarily from the Koç University Libraries. The exhibition was first hosted at the ANAMED Merkez Han Gallery between February and May and is now permenantly exhibited at the SNA Building! Enjoy your visit!

Open Access initiative from World Bank eLibrary.
|
We are happy to inform you about the new Open Access approach of the World Bank Library. World Bank Library resources will be closed to new subscriptions as of June 30, 2023, and will be open access to all users on three different platforms according to resource types.
The first and most comprehensive one is the Open Knowledge Repository (OKR), which already contains open-access resources, such as e-Books, e-Journals, etc. At the same time, you can access the various data sets and the reports published in previous years from the relevant other databases below.

To support UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and draw attention to sustainable cumsumer behaviours, Suna Kıraç Library has started Textbook Swaps. Textbooks that are in good condition and no longer needed will be collected until Fall 2023. You may bring your textbooks to the Information Desk in the library. Once you bring your textbooks a digital badge will be given to you and in the swaps you will have priority! The first Textbook Swap will be initiated in October 2023. #SKLTextbookSwap

Koç University Suna Kıraç Library is working on a new digital collection this year in cooperation with the TEMA Foundation and the Business Directorate to raise awareness of sustainability and the environment. This digital collection aims to document 220 different trees and plants in various parts of the campus. The digital collection will contain general information about these trees and plants, their images and campus locations. In the future, it is planned to add data on these migrating birds to this collection of the campus, which is located on bird migration routes. Stay tuned for the openning of the collection!

GABAM Byzantine Monuments Photographs Archive
|
The Byzantine Monuments Photographs Archive is an ongoing project by Koç University Sevgi Gönül Center for Byzantine Studies (GABAM) to create a digital photographic archive of Byzantine monuments in Istanbul. The core of the archive is made up of monuments found across the Historic Peninsula. New additions are made for Golden Gate, Blachernai Palace, The Church of the Saints Sergius and Bacchus, The Church of Stoudios Monastery, Theodosian Obelisk, Hippodrome, the Church of the Theotokos of Lips Monastery, Pantokrator Monastery monuments.

We organized BiblioPera Libraries Tour as part of the “Treasure Series: Byzantine Studies in the Republican Turkey” theme project!
|
BiblioPera: Beyoğlu Research Centers Network is a partnership project of 13 international research centers located in Beyoglu, rising over the shoulders of a union catalogue, BiblioPera brings the multilingual collections of the libraries of research centers together, and creates a platform for further cooperation for research and activities in Social Sciences, Art & Humanities.
The BiblioPera tour was held on 21st of June within the theme project of Koç University Suna Kıraç Library entitled “Treasure Series: Byzantine Studies in Republican Turkey”. As part of the tour, ANAMED, ARIT, NIT, IFEA and DAI which are the BiblioPera’s partner libraries with Byzantine collections were visited and related collections were introduced by the Librarians to the participants who are mostly students or researchers from various institutions.

2023 International Archives Week Talks
|
Koç University Suna Kıraç Library organized two panels on 8 June 2023 as part of the annual International Archives Week.
In our first panel on "Archives in the 100 Years of the Republic", Prof. Ahmet Oğuz İçimsoy (Marmara University) and Umut Soysal (Directorate of State Archives) discussed archival studies in Turkey from the Ottoman times until present day.
Our second panel was on the theme of “Disaster Management in Archives”, the importance of which was revealed once again as a result of the unfortunate earthquake disaster in our country in February. American Association of Archivists, Disaster and Tragedy Response Working Group members Vanessa St. Oegger-Menn (Syracus University Library) and Kara McClurken (University of Virginia Library) gave two talks on “Disaster Archives” and “Disaster Protection of Archives”.

Hello! I am Ebru Gönül, I currently work as your Reference and Academic Engagement Librarian and College of Administrative Sciences and Economics Liaison Librarian.
I graduated from Hacettepe University, Department of Information Management in 2016 and completed my master’s degree in “Science, Technology, and Society” at Istanbul Technical University. Although I am one of the newest members of SKL, I have seven years of experience as a reference librarian. I started my new position at SKL in December 2022. I have various responsibilities such as reference services, library instructions, research analysis, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Starting from next term, I will also manage the Library Ambassadors program.

Hi I'm Mert, I am Circulation Librarian here at SKL!
If you are a regular user of the library, I am sure we have met before! I graduated from Istanbul University with a Bachelor's degree in Information and Document Management in 2017. After graduating, I worked in an architecture-oriented library for 5 years, I provided user services, cataloged books and managed the donation policy. Since March 2023 I am working here at SKL. You can find anwers to many of your questions from our Library website, but if you need further assistance I'll be at the information desk.
