Welcome

April started with the long-awaited spring rains. We are pleased to offer you a comfortable study space on rainy days. The last week of March is celebrated as 59th National Library Week. Koç University Libraries hosted the opening ceremony of the Week and contributed with various events. On Wednesday, March 29th, ANAMED Library organized a guided tour to the exhibition titled "Illuminating the Future: Reconstruction of Higher Education in the First Years of the Republic, 1923-1946" and the tour is followed by a seminar on the republic and libraries. On Thursday, March 30th, the Career Fair took place. In this event, 17 librarians with different specializations shared their experiences with the students of the Information and Records Management Departments, new graduates, and young colleagues. April has also another significance. SKL Podcast

At the Suna Kıraç Library "İstanbul'u Dinliyorum" Podcast, this month we hosted Hatice Adıgüzel in a discussion entitled "Geç Osmanlı İstanbul’unda İtalyan Mimarlar: Raimondo D’Aronco ve Annibale Rigotti". In this episode, we talked about the Italian architects of late Ottoman Istanbul, Raimondo D'Aronco and Annibale Rigotti.

We focused on mansions and buildings built by Raimondo D’Aronco who came to Istanbul to design and implement the Dersaadet Agricultural and Industry Exhibition-i Umumisi, planned to be organized by Abdülhamid for different customer groups in Istanbul. We discussed about the projects that Turin architect Annibale Rigotti realized together with D'Aronco in Istanbul, and the reflections of the international Art Nouveau movement on Istanbul architecture.

If you want to learn more about these Art Nouveau architects, you can listen to our podcast and access our other podcast episodes from the Suna Kıraç Library Spotify Account and Apple Podcast.

ANAMED Library Talk

ANAMED Library Talks continue in April. This month's guests are Dr. Burak Başaranlar, İrem Ünal and Nathalie Defne Gier. The proclamation of the Republic initiated a large-scale social change movement in Turkey, covering the political, economic, and social spheres. One of the important areas where this movement of change is felt is higher education institutions and innovations in the field of higher education.

Burak Başaranlar, who is a visiting professor at Kadir Has University Core Program, will talk about this change movement and will focus on how this change movement plays a role in building a new society. In the aforementioned period, Darülfünun was reopened as Istanbul University by reorganizing it to meet the needs of the period, institutes/faculties such as the Higher Institute of Agriculture, the Institute of Language and History and Geography were established, and scientists who left Germany came to Turkey and made significant contributions to raising the first generation of the Republic.

In his speech, Başaranlar will examine the institutions operating in this period, the laws that marked this transformation story, this multi-layered transformation story involving the academics working in these institutions and the students studying in these schools. In addition, Nathalie Defne Gier and İrem Ünal will give information about the preparation process of the exhibition.

Open Science Requirements in Horizon Europe

All peer-reviewed scientific publications arising from Horizon Europe funding must be made available in open access. This implies that publications are to be made freely available online, immediately upon publication and with no restrictions on use, by depositing them in a repository.

Project-Related Publications in Open Access: Under Horizon Europe, beneficiaries must ensure immediate Open Access to their peer-reviewed scientific publications relating to their results no later than the publication date and through trusted repositories. Beneficiaries must also retain sufficient intellectual property rights (IPRs) to comply with Open Access requirements.

To assist with the Open Science requirements in Horizon Europe, the European Commission has recently launched a no-cost, full open-access, peer-reviewed publishing service, Open Research Europe.

Research Data Management in Horizon Europe: Beneficiaries must include a Data Management Plan (DMP) for FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) research data. Data sharing must be as 'open as possible, as closed as necessary.’ DMPs will need to be delivered within the first six months of the project start date.
