SKL Podcast

At the Suna Kıraç Library "İstanbul'u Dinliyorum" Podcast, this month we hosted Aliye Erol in a discussion entitled "Antikçağ İstanbul'unda Festivaller".

In this talk, we talked about religious beliefs and cults in Byzantion and Chalcedon, which were founded by the Megarians from Hellas in the middle of the century, and various festivals, competitions and festivals held in Antiquity. We talked about the Bosporia, Antonineia and gymnasion agons in the city center of Byzantion, as well as the festivals organized in honor of Dionysos Kallon and Zeus Pratomysios in the countryside. We talked about the written remains of Dionysia and gymnasion (school) agons, especially Pythia, in Chalcedon, which has a strong Apollon cult.

You can listen to our podcast and access our other podcast episodes from the Suna Kıraç Library Spotify Account and Apple Podcast.

The Library Continues to Listen Student Projects

ASIU 118 Design Thinking Course

ASIU 118 Design Thinking course aims to help students to interpret the processes of ‘design’ according to their own discipline. Throughout the course, students first explore the user's perspective to reframe the given problem summary and then develop ideas that can help tackle the reframed problem. To come up with design ideas, the students follow one of the world’s biggest innovation company IDEO’s Design Thinking methodology. While exploring theoretical knowledge on the history of design and the emergence of design thinking, the students also actively develop and practice skills on how to innovate new ideas through understanding the human-centered approach.

This semester, in this course, students worked on developing design ideas to solve the overcrowdedness problem in the library during busy times. The students conducted interviews with different user groups, such as library staff, students, and library managers. After analyzing the results, they narrowed down the problem based on users’ perspectives. Consequently, they developed ideas that might help to overcome the main problem. The final presentation of this course was presented in the library seminar room with the library’s contribution.
