After a long period of online events, Suna Kıraç Library is happy to announce its first face-to-face international event of the year! The 3rd International Library Staff Week will take place in May! This year’s theme is Constructing the Future: Innovation, Partnership, Sustainability. We are really looking forward to welcoming international colleagues at our campus and share with them a productive and pleasant week!

Systematic Review Support Service

A systematic review is a review of a clearly formulated question that uses systematic and reproducible methods to identify, select and critically appraise all relevant research It also collects and analyses data from the studies that are included in the review. Our librarians help researchers in conducting systematic reviews as consultants or co-authors. For detailed information on the subject, you can visit our website or the libguide we have prepared. New Electronic Resource Subscription: Wall Street Journal

We are happy to announce the new subscription to Wall Street Journal.

All library users can access the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) from anywhere once they create a personal account. To create a personal account, please click on the following link to the WSJ registration page. For this, make sure that you are on campus network. Once you fill out the form, your access will be granted including off-campus access and access on mobile devices.

Public Domain Resources

Believe it or not, copyright is not for eternity! This year, copyrighted works from 1926 will enter to public domain. This contains more than 400.000 sound recording and books such as Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A.Pilne, The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. The list is so long that cannot be written here. Check here to find out all the public domain resources that are now freely accessible!



Library Treasure: Civil Architecture

The new theme of Koç University Libraries’ Treasures Series launched! The new theme entitled “Civil Architecture” will extend over three months. The theme aims at introducing the related resources such as archival materials and print collections at the Koç University Libraries to a wider audience through digital exhibition, libguide, blog posts, podcasts and social media platforms. Join us to explore the unknown aspects of civil architecture. Stay alert for up-coming news and remember to follow us on our social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter).


Virtual Book Club

February’s book choice is Nobel prize-winning author José Saramago’s “Blindness.” Dear booklovers of KU Community, you may read this book to find out the story of an unexplained mass epidemic of blindness afflicting nearly everyone in an unnamed city, and the social breakdown that swiftly follows.

SKL Podcast

At the Suna Kıraç Library “İstanbul'u Dinliyorum” Podcast, this month we hosted Emrah Safa Gürkan in a discussion titled “Diplomasi Merkezi Olarak İstanbul [Istanbul as a Diplomacy Centre]”. In this episode, we discussed the emergence of diplomat as a profession, the diplomats who came to Istanbul during the Ottoman period, the embassies that held a diplomatic place in Istanbul as the intelligence centre, mysterious heroes of the city, the spies who changed the fate of states and their espionage activities. ANAMED Library Talks

ANAMED Library Talks, continue with M. Erdem Kabadayı and Kerem Tınaz on February 1, 2022. In this talk, M. Erdem Kabadayı will discuss the UrbanOccupationsOETR (https://urbanoccupations.ku.edu.tr/) project, share their experiences in building a large multi-expertise team to work on one methodological aim: to bring Ottoman/Turkish history to digital humanities. Kerem Tınaz will be the moderator of the talk. The talk will be held online and in English. You can find more information about the talk here.

ANAMED Podcast

At this month’s ANAMED Library Podcast: Burada Konuşmak Serbest’s archive themed podcast we hosted, Güneş Çetinkaya Şerik, Lecturer at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Turkish Music State Conservatory. In this podcast, we explored the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory Archive and Documentation Centre. In this podcast you will find out the collections contained in this archive, the Digitizing the Cultural Heritage of Turkish Music project of the archive funded by ISTKA, and the research possibilities and donation procedures. International Library Staff Week 2022

For the third time, Koç University Libraries are organizing the International Library Staff Week in Istanbul, between 9-13 May 2022. This event brings together professional Library staff with varied backgrounds working in universities or other research orientated libraries with an interest in sharing ideas and networking with colleagues.

The main theme of this year’s International Library Study Week is "Constructing the Future". Library and Information Science is a key sector that contributes to the development of the forthcoming ideas and projects. Having an impact on the future requires multiple considerations on various subjects. Through this week, together we will investigate these considerations and analyse the following sub-themes; innovation, partnership and sustainability.

International Book Giving Day

14th February, the International Book Giving Day, is about getting books into the hands of as many children as possible. We would very much appreciate your contributions to further develop our Children Books collection. Our goal is a constantly growing, long-term, sustainable collection for your own children, but we cannot do that without your generous help. Suitable books are Children’s books for kids aged birth to 12 years old in new or gently used condition, either in Turkish or any other Language. Welcoming New Team Members!

The library is pleased to announce new staff members to support your research, teaching, and scholarship!

Dr. Burak Başaranlar has started his new position as Academic Engagement Librarian at the Suna Kıraç Library. Dr. Başaranlar received his BA and MA from the Middle East Technical University and completed his PhD studies at the History Department of Binghamton University, where he was also a lecturer.

Senanur Çağlayan is the new Night Shift Library Assistant. She is currently a student at the Information and Records Management Department of Istanbul University.
