New year is just around the corner! Before we say goodbye to 2021, we want to present you our Movers &Shakers list! Movers & Shakers is an idiom used for a person or a group of people who initiates events and influences people. In our yearly resolution, we collected all our accomplishments, and we are portraying you, our impact on KU community and beyond.

2021 for the Suna Kıraç Library and the branch libraries was a year of many new collaborations, projects, and events! Meanwhile our print and e-resources and digital collections continued to grow, and our instructions never stopped! In the new year, the Library will carry on supporting full force the KU community, with innovative services, various resources, instructions, and strong research support – stay tuned for more in 2022!





Library Research Analytics

Research analytics provide insight into the positioning of the research fields and identify important patterns and trends within the research domains. It introduces researchers and faculties a collection of various bibliometric data sources such as Web of Science, Scopus, SciVal and Journal Citation Reports providing analysis reports and visualization tools. Library Research Analytics Service supports KU researchers and departments/colleges in accessing and interpreting publications, citations and collaboration data. Ankara Immovable Cultural Heritage Inventory Collection

The Ankara Immovable Cultural Heritage Inventory is based on the photographs of the immovable cultural property in Altındağ District between 1978-1979. During the same period an inventory survey was conducted by the Ministry of Culture of the period. As an outcome of this survey, 633 immovable cultural properties in Altındağ District were registered. Today these records are accessible to researchers at the Digital Collections Website. The survey has also a second phase that contains 24 other districts of Ankara such as Akyurt, Ayaş, Bala, Beypazarı, Çamlıdere, Çankaya, Çubuk, Elmadağ, Etimesgut, Evren, Gölbaşı, Güdül, Haymana, Kalecik, Kazan, Keçiören, Kızılcahamam, Mamak, Nallıhan, Polatlı, Pursaklar, Sincan, Şereflikoçhisar, and Yenimahalle. In 2021 the process of adding the second phase of the inventory to the digital collection started with the addition Akyurt, Ayaş, Bala, Beypazarı, Çamlıdere districts. The goal is to complete the metadata of all the districts and make them accessible in 2022.



Treasure Gallery Series 3 – Daily Life in Byzantine Istanbul: Culture

The Daily Life in Byzantine Istanbul theme is continuing in December with a full program specialized on Culture in Byzantium. This December you will learn about society, Byzantine food culture, housing, leisure, clothing, marriage & family life, daily life in the Byzantine Empire and cities and city Life in Byzantium based on, especially in Istanbul. On Thursday, December 16, a talk entitled “Daily Life in Byzantium: Culture” will take place with three distinguished speakers, Koray Durak (Boğaziçi University), Siren Çelik (Marmara University) and Suna Çağaptay (Bahçeşehir University). Also, two podcasts will be made available this month! The podcasts are with Buket Kitapçı Bayri on “Byzantine Food Culture and Identity”, Ayşegül Melis Dilek on “Eating and Drinking Culture in Byzantine Monasteries”. Suna Kıraç Library Podcast

At this Suna Kıraç Library “İstanbul'u Dinliyorum” Podcast, we hosted Özge Samancı for a discussion entitled “19. Yüzyılda İstanbul Mutfağı” [Istanbul Cuisine in 19th Century]. In this episode, we discussed about the remarkable changes and continuity in the 19th century Ottoman cuisine compared to the 15th and 16th centuries, table manners of the late Ottoman period, Turkish cookbooks with Arabic and Armenian letters published in İstanbul in the 19th century and selected recipes from these books. SKL Book Club

Dear booklovers in KU Community,

This month’s book at SKL Book Club is My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk. The book is about Ottoman and Persian artists and their ways of seeing and portraying the non-western world, told through a love story and family story. It was published in 1998. The novel won the French Prix du meilleur livre étranger, the Italian Grinzane Cavour (2002) and the International IMPAC Dublin literary award (2003).

ANAMED Library Talks

ANAMED Library Talks, jointly organized by ANAMED Library and the History Foundation (Tarih Vakfı), continue with Ali Yaycıoğlu on December 7, 2021. In this talk, Ali Yaycıoğlu will present the digital history project Mapping the Ottoman Epirus, which he undertook at the Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis at Stanford University. Abdurrahman Atçıl will be the moderator of the talk. The talk will be held online and in Turkish. For registering to the talk please click here.

The newest collection of Suna Kıraç Library: Keskin Color Collection

Keskin Color Postcard and Archive Collection is now at Koç University Suna Kıraç Library. Consisting of approximately 10,000 archival materials, Keskin Color Postcard and Archive Collection includes the photographs taken by Naci Keskin and Abdullah Keskin (the founders of the company) in the 1950s, as well as the postcards and slides that produced by the company from 1962 to the end of the 1990s. As the collection houses images comprised of cityscapes and building views, human landscapes, touristic places, archaeological sites and historical artefacts from various cities of Turkey; It will be a valuable resource for the visual memory of Turkey between 1950 and 1990. The classification, inventory and digitization work of the collection are planned to be stated in the first quarter of 2022.
