Dear all,

Welcome back! It is great to see you all at the Campus after a long while. The Campus is back to its lively and busy atmosphere with everyone around! With this wonderful return, we are happy to announce that all our libraries are now open to users! You may find all the new rules and regulations on each library’s websites; Suna Kıraç Library, Health Sciences Library, ANAMED, AKMED and VEKAM.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at our libraries! We wish you a healthy and productive semester!

Library Orientations

SKL started its orientations full force!

The orientations started with the introduction of the library to the undergraduate students. Through our new orientation video, we presented them in detail the Suna Kıraç Library spaces, services and resources. Our newcomers are now ready to make most of the Library!

The online orientations continued with EMBA, MBA and MSc students. Besides the online orientations we also had live orientations. Exchange Students Orientation and Graduate Schools Orientation were done live at the library. Librarians introduced the Library Services such as document delivery, research support and many others. We finalized our orientations with the New Faculty Orientation and ELC Instructors Orientation.

Please remember! All library staff is ready and very happy to assist you. You may ask your questions through many channels.

Suna Kıraç Library always supports its users with numerous instructions during the semester. The SKL Reference team recently developed a Researcher Development Webinar Series Course embedded into the Library instructions. In addition, the Reference team offers discipline-based literature search trainings such as Qualtrics (survey tool) instruction, reference management tools (EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero) trainings, database trainings and many more.

Library Trackit

Do you have an urgent question to a librarian? You are not sure whom to contact in the library? Are you confused about where to find the request forms? Well, this tool is designed for you! Our latest tool, the Library Trackit is created to collect all library users’ questions and requests. Our library team provides support and resolves all requests, queries and problems on Trackit, within the same day. Visit the Library Trackit and make your first request!

Treasure Gallery Series 2 – Anatolian Nomads: Yuruks

The second theme of the Koç University Libraries’ Treasure Gallery projects entitled “Nomads of Anatolia: Yuruks” has been successfully completed! First, a series of public conferences was held in September on Josephine Powell Slides Collection and Ulla Johansen Anatolian Ethnology Collection. Distinguished researchers shared their experience and research about Yuruks. You may access the conferences from the Suna Kıraç Library youtube account. Furthermore, related Library resources, an online exhibition and blog posts about Yuruks are included in a detailed LibGuide. All the events and many more will be added to the Treasure Gallery web page in the upcoming days.

Treasure Gallery Series 3 – Daily Life in Byzantine Istanbul

The new theme of Koç University Libraries’ Treasures Series will be launched in early October! The new theme entitled “Daily Life in Byzantine Istanbul” will extend over three months and focus on 3 sub-categories, namely “architecture and public space” in October, “arts and crafts” in November, culture (cuisine, entertainment and music) in December. The theme aims at introducing the related resources such as rare books, archival materials and print collections at the Koç University Libraries to a wider audience through talks and podcasts. Join us to explore unknown but fascinating aspects of daily life in Istanbul in the Byzantine period. Stay alert for up-coming news!

2021 Open Access Week Theme is “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity”

The theme for 2021 International Open Access Week has been announced! The theme is “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity and it will be held on October 25-31. This year’s theme emerged from the newly released UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science! The UNESCO Recommendation stresses that openness is crucial for equity in scholarship. The 2021 International Open Access Week will highlight the UNESCO Recommendation’s call and draw attention to the future impact of open research practices. Library students Ambassadors

The Student Ambassadors (SA) Program is a great opportunity if you want to gain planning experience and developing leadership skills.

For more than 3 years the SA team has been helping us in many events such as Book Club Talks, game and mindfulness events, storytelling sessions. In addition to helping and organizing events they supported us to create posters, prepared visuals for social media accounts, wrote blog posts.

We are looking for new members and fresh ideas for the SA Program! Applications for the new semester has just begun! ANAMED Library Talks

ANAMED Library Talks’ October guests are Matthew Harpster, Michael Jones and Athena Trakadas. In this talk they will discuss the various aspects of maritime archaeology. They will provide answer to the following questions: How does maritime archaeology help us to understand the past and the human relationship with the sea? What is the difference between maritime, nautical, and underwater archaeology? As moderator, Athena Trakadas will guide Michael Jones and Matthew Harpster through a discussion on a variety of topics specifically for a general audience. SKL Podcast

At the Suna Kıraç Library “İstanbul'u Dinliyorum” Podcast, this month we hosted Meri Çevik Simyonidis. Together we had a discussion entitled “İstanbullu Rumların Tatlı Tuzlu Anıları”. In this episode, we talked about the contribution of Istanbul Greeks to the eating-drinking-living cultures of Istanbulites, and also about the gastronomic memory, the history of food industry, the rich and multicultural cuisine of Istanbul. At the end of the podcast, we asked Meri Çevik Simyonidis five questions about Istanbul.
