Welcome

We have already left the first month of the Fall Semester behind. As all classes have been conducting via remote online instruction, the Library is trying its best to support KU Community’s learning and teaching needs by any means necessary. Although Covid-19 pandemic has posed several challenges for everyone of us, the virtual world has given some options to overcome these challenges. “E-reserves” and “Scan & Deliver” are only the two examples from our recent attempts. Increasing number of inquiries proves that we are on the right way. And, we look forward to receiving your feedback too.

November marks the commemoration of the 82st Anniversary of the passing away of Atatürk, the founder of our Republic. As we remember Atatürk and his accomplishments, we would like to remind you that we hold a rich collection on his life and his work. Once we re-open, you may definitely want to browse these shelves.

“Our true mentor in life is science.”
― Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

SKL Virtual Book Club

Library Trainings

There was an intense interest and participation from our users in the "Library Researcher Development Webinar Series" that we turned online at the beginning of the pandemic process. With the courage we got from here, we planned new sessions as of October 12 with a richer content variety. In addition to regular webinar subjects like reference management tools, Qualtrics, bibliometrics, researcher IDs, Open Access, we added more dicipline based instructions to this semester’s program. Some of the new titles are Data Management Planning for Social Scientists: Writing a DMP, Emerging trends and research performance: Scival, Literature Review in Engineering, Bibliometric databases Scopus, Web of Science for Art and Humanities, Social Sciences, Journal metrics: Journal Citation Reports and CiteScore for Sciences, Systematic Review in Psychology and many more.

Webinars are organized in Zoom, and registration is necessary. Please follow our e-mail announcements or check the Library Instructions and Events Calendar.

“Engaging Researchers with Data Management: The Cookbook” has been translated in Turkish with the support of Suna Kıraç Library!

Data management has an extremely important place in the open science ecosystem. Suna Kıraç Library develops a range of research data management services such as RDM Guidelines, support for the preparation of data management plans, training series, libguides and KU research data repository (KU-RDR) for our researchers. The Library is also a member of the sub-working Group of Turkey Research Data and Open Data initiative operating under the Higher Education Council (YÖK). This Open Access book emerged as a project of the group.

The purpose of translating the “Engaging Researchers with Data Management: The Cookbook”, which is one of the newest sources on data management written by the members of Research Data Alliance (RDA), is to explain the management of research data, as well as the communication and interaction with researchers from all over the world through case studies to the people responsible for Research Data Management (RDM) in institutions. In this way, it helps them to initiate the cultural change necessary for better data management. This book will also fill an important deficiency in the Turkish literature in this field and will serve as a basis for further research.

OAPEN Open Access Books Toolkit

We recently celebrated the International Open Access week with a big event. There are several initiatives around the academic world to better support researchers in the publishing process and in Open Access and Open Science matters. The OAPEN Open Access Books toolkit is a free-to-access, stakeholder-agnostic resource that aims to help authors better understand OA for books, increase trust in OA book publishing, provide reliable and easy-to-find answers to questions from authors, and to provide guidance on the process of publishing an OA book

Initiative for Open Abstracts

The Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA) is a collaboration between scholarly publishers, infrastructure organizations, librarians, researchers and other interested parties to advocate and promote the unrestricted availability of the abstracts of the world's scholarly publications, particularly journal articles and book chapters, in trusted repositories where they are open and machine-accessible.

Unrestricted availability of abstracts boosts the discovery of research and brings numerous benefits to researchers. If you are a scholar embarking in the publishing process, read more about it and learn how Open Abstracts help scholarly publishers to maximise the visibility and reach of their journals and books.
