Welcome
From Tulip Festival

Hello May!
Are you going to bring a bright sun and blossomed flowers?!

April was a very active month for the Library, despite the Spring break. We were engaged in events and activities, we “refreshed” our e-resources and purchased new titles for our collection, we scheduled several Instructions for Graduate students and we continued with a session of our newly established Book club at KUH.

International Library Staff Week

IILSW19

The beginning of April was a blast for all of us in SKL, as we spent a week with 22 International Academic Librarians. Continuing a tradition, we started last year, we organized and hosted an International event with a focus on "Changing Roles of Libraries in the Digital Era". Days passed with information sessions, fruitful discussions and exchange of professional and personal experiences that broadened our perspective on issues related to Information Science, but also with off campus cultural visits and lot of fun.

A big THANK YOU to all our participants. Our International family is growing, and we are thrilled!

Library Instructions

Instructions for Graduate Students

The Library recently started a collaboration with the Koç University Researcher Development Office. Our Reference Librarians are organizing instruction sessions tailor made to the Information needs of the Graduate students. Current topics cover reference management tools, key research skills, research using the Library’s sources, hot trends in scientific fields and the importance of citations.

We hope our graduate students make the most of these valuable sessions.

New Website

Library’s New Website

Library have been working on a new project, to renew its website with the IT department. Our primary goal is to create a website that will have a user-friendly interface and will provide easy access to our collection, our services, the e-services and our research tools. The appearance and structure of the new website is based on a template created by the IT department, but it is tailored to our needs. During this preparation stage, we have been building the new site with modules, menus, pages and subpages transferring our existing content and creating new one. Now, we are working on making contextual and software additions where needed.

Our new website will be ready soon and launched in the same URL you all know: library.ku.edu.tr

Don’t wait for photos or more… We want it to be a surprise!

VEKAM

Heritage Istanbul Conference and Exhibition

Koç University VEKAM participated in a 3days event about archaeology, restoration and technologies in museums, titled "Heritage Istanbul". Within the scope of the event, they organised a workshop about the importance of metadata in cultural heritage organizations by VEKAM. The workshop attracted the attention of the attendees and many of them participated.

HSL Book Club

Book club at the Health Science Library

On Thursday April 18th at Health Science Library, we held the third session of our Book Club, an activity we started earlier this year, in March. This session’s book was “The Steppe” by Anton Chekhov, and through the pages we tried to capture traces of the author's biographical elements and to think deep about the true meaning and the kind of relationship that can be developed between nature and man.

In our 3 events so far, we have examined outstanding examples of both Turkish and World Literature such as “Hunger” by Knut Hamsun, “The Birds Have Also Gone” by Yaşar Kemal and “The Steppe: A Journey Story” by Anton Chekhov. Our Book club consists of the students of the Health Sciences Campus and during the meetings all our club members receive equal share in the discussion.

If you are interested in joining our Book club and be informed about the following sessions, you can send an e-mail to hslibinformation@ku.edu.tr or call 0212 311 26 23.
