June brings a sunny end to the academic year, along with the Graduation ceremony, the summer school and of course, the summer holiday! What a busy month, that is!

For the Library, it continues to be an active period with the remaining exams and the preparation for summer projects. In the current issue you can read about recent activities as well as some tools and services.

Growing collection with enriched metadata: Koç University Institutional Repository (KUIR)

The Koç University Institutional Repository (KUIR) is an electronic archive of research materials created by researchers of the Koç University. KUIR continues to expand its collection with recently added publications. Currently, there are almost 1,500 open access scientific materials belonging to Koç University's researchers.

This year’s further improvement is the enrichment of the bibliographic metadata with new fields. With this development users will be able to search and browse materials by the ORCID iD, by the indexing information of the source and the grant information of the project related to the publication.

• If the author has an ORCID iD, it will be added to the corresponding metadata field.


• Web of Science (WoS), Scopus and ULAKBİM’s TR Dizin indexes will be added to indicate the retrieval source of the publication


• The sources published within the scope of a project funded by the EU or TUBITAK will be indicated by the grant number in the bibliographic metadata field.

Publons

Publons is a web platform that provides a free service for Academics to track, verify, and showcase their peer review and editorial contributions for academic journals. Your Publons profile is the public facing element of your Publons account where other members of the community can see the publications, verified peer reviews, verified editorial board memberships, and editor records that make up your verified record of contributions to research.

If you participate as a Reviewer, Publons provides a free way for you to track, verify and showcase your peer review activities, creating an online record of your contributions in this area. This can be used as evidence of your peer review experience and your expertise in your discipline in job applications, performance evaluations and funding applications.

Publons is powered by integrations with the Web of Science, ORCiD and thousands of scholarly journals to provide industry-leading, trustworthy information so you can show the world more of your research impact. GIVE YOUR BRAIN A BREAK FOR RELAXATION! – Mindfulness sessions

Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we're sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.

Suna Kıraç Library and University Innovation Fellows Koç University organized and provided a series of activities for students' mental wellbeing, in the finals week. Different presenters joined forces to present and teach basic yoga practice, breathing techniques and mindfulness activities in the Library’s Seminar room.

Book Club

With the support of our Student Ambassadors we launched a new activity in series, our Book Club. For May we selected 2 different books from Turkish authors covering various topics and after reading each book we met together to share our impressions, try to analyze the writing style and clarify the ideas and meaning in the story. We are planning to continue the club during the Fall semester with more titles, so do share your recommendations and preferences and come join our team.

Board Game Event

For the fourth time we organized and hosted a two days event that brought together gamers from the KU community. Various board games for beginner or expert gamers were gathered in the seminar room and the fun was spread over them while trying to master the game. Many thanks to the KUFRP Student Club for bringing their games for the event and the overall support.

The First Step for your research at Suna Kıraç Library: Credo Reference

If you are working on a research project and having trouble to define specific topic or keywords, Credo Reference is a helpful database that provides full-text multidisciplinary reference books such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases and other reference books from numerous publishers that can be searched using key words. By searching 3,476,085 full text articles in 942 titles from 116 publishers, helps you for your research needs.

Once in the database, you have two options for searching. You can write your search term in a search box at the top or you can browse subjects which offer background information on a subject in the webpage. Also, you can narrow your search by using options such as date, media, collection, subject, length and you can view all the search results, images or mind maps.

Credo “Mind map” is a brainstorming tool that makes your research joyful and creative, as it shows you an easy starting point and pathways for further research.
