Welcome

Tomorrow we have the first blank
page of a book with 365 pages.
Let's make a good book out of it.

Brad Paisley

Message from the Director;

As we start a New Year and as I reflect on Suna Kıraç Library in 2018, what makes me really proud is the growth of the print book collection that has passed 250.000 items. Furthermore, if one asks which one was the lucky 250.000th book added to the collection, the answer hits another landmark of the Library. Our own publication “Koç Universitesi Suna Kıraç Kütüphanesi Yazmalar Kataloğu” has been named as the 250.000th book in the Library. You can read more about the book below.

With this opportunity, I would like to wish Koç University Community a wonderful New Year during which each of us can write our good books full of remarkable landmarks.

Tuba Akbaytürk
Library Director

Covering the period of 1945 to 1970 her extensive archive is comprised of albums and folders containing photographs, correspondence and records related to over 100 restoration projects mainly in Marmara Region. The classification of the collection is still in progress. There are plans to digitize and make the archival materials partially accessible online throughout 2019

EOSC Open Science Cloud

"EU Commision Launches European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)

Following a major effort by the European Commission, the Member States and the scientific community, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) was launched on the 23rd November during an event hosted by the Austrian Presidency of the European Union in Vienna to provide a safe environment for researchers to store, analyse and re-use data for research, innovation and educational purposes.

Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, said:

“With the Open Science priority, we set out to change the way European science works. And the launch of the first Cloud portal today is a major milestone on that journey. The Cloud will give Europe a global edge in reaping the full benefits of data-driven science. Thanks to the commitment of scientists, the industry and the EU member states we have seen an idea become reality in less than three years.

The EOSC will offer 1.7 million European researchers and 70 million professionals in science, technology, the humanities and social sciences a virtual environment with open and seamless services for storage and management of research data, across borders and scientific disciplines by federating existing scientific data infrastructures, currently dispersed across disciplines and the EU Member States.

The EOSC implementation roadmap relies on six action lines for the implementation of the European Open Science Cloud with specific examples and related milestones: Architecture, Data, Services, Access & Interface, Rules and Governance.

The European Commission is providing financial support to implement the EOSC by means of projects under the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020). Under Horizon 2020, €600 million has been allocated to setting up the European Open Science Cloud by 2020.
