Welcome

End of October

With the Fall Semester rolling, the Library welcomes more and more students every day, 24 hours.

Soon assignments will be the major concern of all and mid-term exams are around the corner. No need to panic though, as your Library is the place you can study, work on group projects and most importantly, seek research assistance from the experiences staff.

As for the Faculty members, please note that we are working in order to assist your teaching, support your research and provide you with tools, services and resources.

Greek & Turkish Library Staff Week

Greek & Turkish Library Staff Week

The second week of October was a week of two neighbors coming together. Participating in the Erasmus+ program and seeking to engage in International programs, Koç University Suna Kıraç Library organized and hosted the binational event: “Greek & Turkish Library staff” week.

The event brought together professional Library staff with varied backgrounds working in universities or other research oriented libraries with an interest in sharing ideas and networking with colleagues. It was clearly a chance to create long term warm relations, plant the roots for potential collaborations and enjoy the city with its’ rich history and culture.

The participants spent the first two days at the campus attending presentations and discussions and for the rest three days they enjoyed private guided visits at important cultural sites such as the Ottoman archives, Sadberk hanim museum, the Chora museum, the Library of the Greek Orthdox Patriarchate, the rare book collection of the Greek Consulate and the Greek Theological school at Chalki (Heybeliada) island.

What KU Faculty can Do to Promote Open Access to Scientific Publications

• Submit your research articles to OA journals, when there are appropriate OA journals in your field. DOAJ, which is a platform for open access journals, can be used for choosing the proper journals. Please check the ULAKBİM’s TR Index and DergiPark platforms for the reliable journals which are published in Turkey.

• Deposit your Pre-print or Post-print articles in the Koç University Institutional Repository after the Suna Kıraç Library asked the publisher policy about copyright and author archiving.

• Contact Suna Kıraç Library librepository@ku.edu.tr If you have questions about archiving open access your research results of ERC projects as Horizon 2020 ERC Model Grant Agreement mandates each beneficiary must ensure open access to all peer-reviewed scientific publications relating to its results as soon as possible in a repository.

• When asked to referee a paper or serve on the editorial board for an OA journal, accept the invitation.

• If you are an editor of a toll-access journal, then start an in-house discussion about flipping to OA, experimenting with OA, letting authors retain copyright, abolishing the Ingelfinger rule, or declaring independence (quitting and launching an OA journal to serve the same research niche).

Essential Tools

TR Index

TR Index is a bibliographic and full text database that contains journals located in Turkey. It has developed by ULAKBİM and covers five subject fields; namely, Medical Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities, Life Sciences, and Law.

Scientific journals in TR Index are selected according to Journal Evaluation Criteria, by expert committees consisting of academicians and specialists working in related subject areas.

It is possible to make searches on TR Index webpage which is freely accessible. Biblographic information of all the articles in the Index, such as the title, author’s name, abstract etc., is available; as well as the full texts of articles in the journals which allowed free access by signing a contract of participation, starting from August 2000.
