Health Sciences Library

About the Library

The Health Sciences Library is a branch of Koç University Suna Kıraç Library, located on the 3rd floor of the Koç University Hospital,  Health Sciences Campus.

The core HSL collection relates to nursing and allied health sciences, in support of the School's curriculum and the research interests of its faculty and students. The HS Library is open to the Koç University Hospital (KUH) community. Students, faculty and staff of the Health Sciences also have full privileges of using main Library's facilities at the Rumeli Feneri Campus. 

Library Hours

Monday - Thursday: 09:00am - 09:00pm
Friday: 09:00am - 05:30pm
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: 10:00am - 06:30pm (The Library will be closed between 01:00pm to 01:30pm for lunch)
 
The Library always announces any change in the hours, such as for public holidays.

Circulation Services

Policies on circulation are meant to assist users in using library materials in ways most conducive to user's study or research. Materials that are frequently consulted or heavily used - such as atlases, handbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries and reserve materials - may not be taken outside the Library. General collection materials may be checked out, renewed or returned at the Circulation Desk. All borrowers must have a current library card to check items out from the library.

Borrowing privileges

Borrowing policies are designed to ensure prompt and equitable access to library materials. The length of borrowing periods and specific loan regulations vary.

Health Sciences Campus Faculties, including Adjunct

  • 100 books, auido-books/cd-roms/videos/audiotapes/dvds for classroom use, 1 year, no  renewal;
  • 2 DVD/VCDs, 3 days, 1 renewal;
  • 1 iPad, 3 days, 1 day renewal;
  • 1 notebook, 1 week, 1 renewal;
  • 1 calculator, 4 hours, 4 hours renewal;
  • Online renewal permitted before due date or during the grace period, if the account is in good standing
  • Current journals on overnight/weekend loan (5:45 pm - 9:00 am)
  • ILL privileges (can request up to 5 ILL books and/or 10 articles)

Health Sciences Campus Students (Graduate and Post Graduate) and Short term faculties

  • 50 books, audio-books/cd-roms, 90 days, 1 renewal (30 days)
  • 5 reserve materials, 2 hours, no renewal
  • Online renewal permitted before an item’s due date or, for books, through the end of the 3-day grace period
  • Document delivery services: Intercampus loan service, 5 article requests, 5 books via interlibrary loan

Health Sciences Campus Administrative Personnel, 

  • 25 books, auido-books/cd-roms, 30 days, 1 renewal;
  • 2 DVD/VCDs, 3 days, 1 renewal;
  • 1 iPad, 3 days, 1 day renewal;
  • 1 notebook, 1 week, 1  renewal;
  • 1 calculator, 4 hours, 4 hours renewal;
  • Online renewal permitted before due date or during the grace period, if the account is in good standing

Health Sciences Campus Students

Koç University Hospital Staff

  • 5 books, auido-books/cd-roms, 30 days, 1 renewal;
  • Online renewal permitted before due date or during the grace period, if the account is in good standing ILL privileges (can request up to 5 articles)

Other Libraries (ILL)

  • 50 books, 6 weeks, 1 renewal online and e-mail renewal permitted on/before due date and during the grace period, if the account is in good standing.

 

Collection

The Library collects cd-roms, videos, audiocassettes and slides, as well as books, journals and newspapers. Books are shelved alphanumerically by call numbers. For the general collection, the library uses LC call numbers, and for the Medical Collection, it uses NLM (National Library of Medicine) call numbers. (The Online Catalog reveals what we own, as well as the call numbers.)

The HS Library provides access to over 10,000 electronic journals and e-books through more than 40 databases in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Computing in the Library

All users may use all computers in the library. They may use wireless connection in the Library.

Tüm kullanıcılar kütüphane içinde bulunan bilgisayarları kullanabilir. Yine kablosuz internet ağı sayesinde dizüstü bilgisayarlarını kütüphanede kullanabilirler.

Fines and Fees

The fine for over due material is 1,25 TL per day. If t he user does not return or renew the material during the grace period (3 days long), s/he will also be charged for this period.

If the user loses the material, s/he must inform the Library via email to enebioglu@ku.edu.tr immediately. The cost of the lost material and the processing fee which is 32,50 TL will be charged.

Reserve Services

The aim of the Library's Reserve Service is to enhance the educational process by enabling faculty to place library and personally owned materials on restricted loan to students for limited periods of time. This guarantees that the material is available in the Library for students to use, as and when during the semester.

Photocopy and Print Services

Users may use the Library's copier, printer and scanner.

Policies

Quiet Zones

The Health Sciences Library has areas for both collaborative and individual study. The library is divided into two zones and each zone has its own rules that our patrons are expected to follow.
Here’s a guide to what you can expect in each area:

Definition:
  • Area for quiet reading and study,
  • Occasional talking or low speaking voice is NOT allowed,
  • Cell phone conversations are NOT allowed,
  • Set cell phone to silent or vibration mode,
  • Keep quiet when entering and exiting group study rooms,
Area: All the areas other than low talking zones.
Definition:
  • Areas for working in groups or talking quietly with others,
  • Low talking voice and conversation are permitted,
  • Set cell phone to silent or vibrate,
  • Short phone calls are allowed,
Area: Group Study Area

The Health Sciences Library provides educational resources and services to support learning and scholarship at Koç University. The Library seeks to create and maintain a productive environment conducive to research, and study for members of the academic community. It is the responsibility of Library users to contribute to this atmosphere and to respect the needs of other users. Therefore, users are required to adhere to the Library code of conduct and to refrain from behavior which impedes others in terms of their ability to conduct their studies or research.

The activities which are prohibited in the Library include and are not limited to the following:

  • Speaking loudly while others are studying or searching,
  • Talking on the phone in the library,
  • Listening to music loudly, watching movie and using programs like Skype or Gtalk in the Library. Please wear headphones when listening to audio or watching video,
  • Bringing food and drink into the library except water or drinks in enclosed mugs,
  • Rearranging the furniture,
  • Sleeping in the library,
  • Leaving study area dirty when leaving,
  • Misusing or damaging library materials and equipment,
  • ‘Holding’ desks and tables with personal items. Desks which are left unattended for more than 20 minutes will be emptied of any stray items so that other students can make use of the space,
  • The security of the library collection is provided with magnetic door control system. If you do not complete your lending process, it is forbidden to take the library materials out of the library. Otherwise, the library staff has the right to control your bag and belongings.
