  • 2016

    The administrative responsibility of Netherlands Institute in Turkey (NIT) Library has been given to Koç University Suna Kıraç Library. The NIT Library’s collections are speialized on archaeology, architectural history of Anatolia, the Near East and the Balkans. Subject categories include excavation reports, architecture, art, material science studies, environmental and geoarchaeology. All periods and to the end of the Ottoman period are represented, with an emphasis on prehistory. The Libary also includes publications on history and languages of Anatolia and the Ancient Near East, history and cultural heritage of Istanbul, and art history of the Low Countries. The NIT library, still part of the NIT, serves in Merkez Han, Taksim.


  • 2016

    In 2016, Suna & İnan Kıraç Research Center for Mediterranean Civilizations – AKMED Library joined us as fourth branch Library. The library on antiquity with emphasis on the specific geography of the region developing as per requests by researchers; its archives of documents, photographs and transparencies are available for use by Turkish and foreign researchers and scholars. The Library is located in Kaleiçi, Antalya.


  • 2015

    The SHS (School of Nursing) Library of Koç University at Nişantaşı has moved to its new location on the 3rd floor of Koç University Hospital on the Health Sciences Campus, Topkapı. It continues serving with its new name Health Sciences Library starting July 2015.


  • 2014

    In 2014, The Vehbi Koç and Ankara Research Center Library & Archive joined us as a third branch Library. The Collection of the Library & Archive includes publications, photos, documents, postcards, maps, and documentary films on Ankara. The Center is located in Keçiören, Ankara.


  • 2013

    The number of print books in the Collection had reached 200.000.


  • 2011

    Ms. Tuba Akbaytürk Çanak became the Director of the Library.

    2011 Suna Kıraç Library held EAHIL Workshop with the theme of “Active Learning and Research Partners in Health”.

  • 2009


    The book collection passed 150.000.

  • 2008


    Koç University Suna Kıraç Library hosted LIBER 37th Annual General Conference and Exhibition between 1-5 July 2008.

  • 2007

    In 2007, the Library was also awarded with library acquisition grant by the Getty Foundation. A grant of $150.000 over two years would allow the ANAMED Library to continue acquiring books on the Byzantine and Ottoman periods while beginning to develop the areas of Classical Greek, Hellenistic, Roman Imperial and Late Antique art and architectural history and archaeology.

    ANAMED Library moved to its permanent facility.

  • 2005


    In 2005, the second branch library opened at the Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations, the first Turkish center for advanced research in the art history, archaeology, and history of Turkey. This center located in the Merkez Han –Taksim.

    Koç University Suna Kıraç Library hosts 4th ANKOS Annual Meeting between 13-14 June 2004.

  • 2003

    After Ms. Lindley’s departure in September 2003, Didar Bayır, Assistant Director for the Information Services Branch, was appointed as Director of the Library.

  • 2001

    Instead of BLISS automation system Library choose Innovative Interfaces Innopac The implementation of Innopac system started in June 2000 and completed in July 2001 with all modules including Cataloging, Circulation, ILL, Acquisitions and Serials.

    In 2000, the Library moves from İstinye Campus to Rumelifeneri Campus where the Library is centrally located and easily accessible from any point on/ off campus.

  • 1999


    The Library of School of Nursing was established at the School of Nursing (SON, formerly, School of Health Sciences) Nişantaşı premises in October 1999. The Library also provides reference and circulation services to the medical personnel of the American Hospital as well as to health care professionals who continue their education through SANERC (Semahat Arsel Nursing Education and Research Center).

  • 1998

    The Vehbi Koç Foundation provided the Library with a special grant of funding to support two fully paid scholarships for qualified young Turkish scholars to obtain the MLS degree in an accredited U.S. library school in 1996.

  • 1995

    On 29 September 1995 Ms. Jane Ann Lindley became the Director of the Library. In 1994 and 1995, Dr. Esin Atıl, a renowned expert in Islamic art at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington (Arthur Freer Gallery) graciously permitted Koç University to purchase her specialized collection of slides, books, photographs and articles on Islamic art.

  • 1994

    Ms. Dolores M. Hoelle, who came from Princeton University Library, became the Director of the Library. BLISS online catalog and automated circulation system, which had been purchased from Bilkent University in Ankara.

  • 1993


    Suna Kıraç Library was established on 12 October 1993. Its initial collection of 1590 volumes was located on the İstinye Campus, built on the site of a former match factory. Dr. Ahmet Şimşek, Director of the Computer and Information Technology (CIT) Office, held the additional charge of Director of the Library until December 1993.
